General Milan Rastislav Štefánik, a Slovak diplomat and politician, was one of the most important personalities of modern Slovak history. He was born on July 21, 1880 in the village of Košariská and died in a tragic air accident on May 4, 1919, near the village of Ivanka near the Danube. For his merits, the Czechoslovak nation built a memorial to him - the Cairn located on Bradlo Hill in Myjavská pahorkatina, a short walk from his native village of Košariská.
