Ján Pagáč was born on August 7, 1931 in Kysucky Lieskovec in a small-scale family. In 1963 he graduated from the Higher Pedagogical School in Bratislava and in 1970 he graduated from the University of Agriculture - Faculty of Agronomy in Nitra. During his professional teaching practice, he worked at several schools. He started as a teacher at the Primary Nine Year School in Nova Bystrica, but he also worked in Ochodnica, where he eventually became a director. Thanks to him, a professional classroom and a sports complex around the school were built. In the course of time he worked in the field of education in Čadca, where he was a school inspector. He also worked in the Ministry of Culture of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. Until 1992, he served as director of the National Park Administration of Mala Fatra in Gbeľany. Here he was responsible for the creation of the School of Nature Protection - the only one in Slovakia and he was also the founder of the international exhibition Ekoplagát. He has worked actively in several associations dealing with nature conservation. In June 2011 he received the Minister of Environment Award for his lifelong contribution to nature conservation.
